Tech Entrepreneur Forced To Give Up Password to Crypto Accounts During Home Invasion

Zaryn Dentzel, who co-founded Spain-based tech startup Tuenti, says that he was recently attacked at home by a gang of robbers.

In February 2016, Dentzel and four of his friends, co-founded the tech firm that went on to create what was in the period 2009-2012 Spain’s most popular social network among young people. These days, Tuenti is a Telefónica-owned mobile virtual network operator (MVNO).

According to a report by Spanish daily newspaper El País published on November 3, Dentzel alleges that last Tuesday (November 2), he was attacked at his Madrid home — which a penthouse apartment close to Prado Museum — by “a group of hooded assailants.”

Here is the 38-year-old tech millionaire’s confusing account of what happened that afternoon. This incident started around 3 p.m. and lasted a few hours. He was at home with a visiting maintenance engineer when the doorbell rang and and after he opened the front door, “four of five” hooded men entered his home, covered up the security cameras and his eyes (as well as those of the maintenance guy), and then started to beat him up. The police have confirmed that they did find a small knife found on Dentzel’s chest.

The El País report says that according to Dentzel, he was tortured by the gang because they wanted to “obtain the keys to his accounts and electronic wallets.”

Although in his first report to the police, it seems that Dentzel had claimed that he believed that his Bitcoin fortune was stolen, according to his second report to the police on November 3, apparently he said that the robbers had not been able to get access to his bitcoins.

The Spanish paper went on to say that the National Police in Madrid have taken over the investigation, which so far has not resulted in any arrests.
